Estuarine Shoreline

The study by Florida Atlantic University, 'Suitability Analysis for Living Shorelines Development in Southeast Florida’s Estuarine Systems', funded by The Nature Conservancy, assessed the potential for nature-based shoreline projects in the estuaries and inland waterways of Palm Beach, Broward and Miami-Dade counties. This study drew upon extensive research, expert opinion and computer modeling to assess and map the shoreline for suitability of different types of coastal projects. Extensive spatial and technical data were produced and made available to the public.

The story map created by The Nature Conservancy in collaboration with the Shoreline Resilience Working Group of the Southeast Florida Regional Climate Change Compact provides an overview of the completed nature-based shoreline stabilization projects, and presents the results of the suitability analysis to identify potential future locations where natural infrastructure can support shoreline resilience.
