Christen Hutton, AICP is an Adjunct Instructor in the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at Florida Atlantic University. Professionally, she is a Project Manager with over 13 years of public and private sector planning experience throughout Florida, California, and Wyoming. In the private sector, she has secured entitlements for numerous commercial, residential, institutional and mixed-use developments; managing all project aspects including site planning, zoning amendments, text amendments, comprehensive plan amendments, variances, and public hearing representation. Her diverse public planning experience includes, park design, campus master planning, GIS analysis/mapping, drafting comprehensive plan policy and land development code language, developing streetscape/mobility plans, and managing public design charrettes.

Ms. Hutton worked with Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council and the Florida Department of Transportation on a grant to develop the comprehensive Florida Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Guidebook. At the University of Florida (UF), Ms. Hutton was a research assistant for the Center for Building Better Communities and the Geoplan Center in the College of Design, Planning, and Construction, where she conducted GIS analysis on the inextricable link between land use, population density, and transportation. Additionally, she developed various GIS models analyzing farm crop yields and transportation system distribution suitability for the Food and Resource Economics Department at the Institute for Food and Agricultural Sciences. She also partnered with the College of Medicine on a National Institute of Health grant, analyzing cancer patient travel requirements for treatment accessibility.

Ms. Hutton was appointed to the Planning and Zoning Commission/Board of Adjustment for the Town of Jackson Hole, WY and served on the Recreational Park Design Committee for the City of Larkspur, CA. She is a Certified Planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP), and holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Landscape Architecture and a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Florida.
