College of Science Statement on Violence Against the Asian American and Pacific Islander Community

Tuesday, Mar 30, 2021

The Charles Schmidt College of Science stands in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities in denouncing increased violence, xenophobia, discrimination, and micro-aggression directed against Asian Americans across the nation, especially the recent mass shooting in Atlanta, where six of the eight victims are Asian Women.

We recognize there is a myriad of reasons leading to the manifestation of such xenophobic, misogynistic, and racially motivated violence, including a long history of laws, policies, racial stereotypes, and cultural prejudices and biases.

Within this context, we state our support for our Asian American and Pacific Islander and international students, staff, and faculty. You are valued members of our community and we care about your safety and well-being. We stand with all students, staff, and faculty of all backgrounds and identifies, and stand with all individuals who have experienced racism, harassment, xenophobia, and discrimination.

If you need emotional support during this difficult time, please call FAU’s Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) at 561-297-3540.
