Undergraduate Psychology Degree Program Ranked in ‘U.S. News’ for First Time

Thursday, Oct 19, 2023

The Schmidt College of Science’s undergraduate psychology program placed No. 234 in the 2024  U.S. News & World Report  rankings of top undergraduate programs in the country. This marks the first time in the program’s history to ever be included in the prestigious report.

“Those of us in the department have always known that we have a special group of faculty and a diverse group of highly engaged, enthusiastic students, but it is very exciting to receive this national recognition for all of the great things we have going on in our program,” stated Alan Kersten, Ph.D., Professor and Chair, Department of Psychology.

The Department of Psychology has a presence on three Florida Atlantic University campuses: Boca Raton, Davie, and Jupiter. Currently, more than 2,100 undergraduate majors are enrolled in the program. Psychology is the second most popular degree program at Florida Atlantic in terms of enrollment. The department’s award-winning and internationally renowned faculty conduct research in four core areas of psychology: cognitive and cognitive neuroscience, developmental, neuroscience, and social/personality psychology. Students undergo rigorous academic and research training and pursue successful careers after graduation, in both academia and industry.

“This national ranking suggests that we are doing an excellent job of engaging our students in the subject matter of psychology,” shared Kersten. “Just as one example of this, I think we do a particularly good job at offering research opportunities to our undergraduates, allowing students to actively participate in the discovery of new scientific findings that they will likely retain for the rest of their lives.”
